Taylor Liyucan Chen | 陈李予粲
Taylor Liyucan Chen is a freelance production designer based in Los Angeles. She was born in Xi'An, grew up in Shanghai, studied in Boston, and now lives in Los Angeles. Taylor grew up with the feeling of “not belonging anywhere,” but found solace in films, music, fiction, alongside other artforms. Her favorite quote, “All that is solid melts into the air,” perfectly summarizes modernity and echoes Taylor’s “in-between” feelings, as well as her constant experiences of construction and deconstruction. She resonates with stories that are about memories, nostalgia, loss, and self-reconciliation.
Taylor’s personality is reflected in her work. She sees production design as the invisible hand that brings audiences into the fictional world. Every detail counts, from a piece of paper to a space's architecture. She recognizes production design as a form of painting within the camera frame, using architecture, furniture, and objects as her mediums. She craves working on projects that allow her and her collaborators to make something unique and unseen.
Taylor holds an MFA in production design from the American Film Institute and is a member of ADG’s Production Design Initiative Program. The films she has worked on have been featured in various festivals, including Outfest, Berlin Commercial Festival, Academy Award-qualified festivals such as the LA Shorts International Film Festival and Hollyshorts Film Festival.
